Whop for AI Builders: Embedded Checkout, Payouts and License Keys

A personal note from Dennis

I want you to see who is behind this recommendation.

I’m Dennis Yu. If I’m asking an AI builder or agency owner to make a money-and-systems decision, a fee table and a company logo are not enough. You should be able to see the people I know, the team I bring, and the work we do together.

Aden Trano, Whop’s Head of Services, and I spent three days together at the Sphere Rocket Open in Frisco. My team built his personal site. Jack Allard was there running our agents between conversations. Cam Hazzard and Dylan Haugen teach alongside me on stage. These are working relationships, not stock photos or borrowed endorsements.

If Whop is the right fit, come in through me. You pay the same price, and my team will help you think through the setup with the worksheets and review path on this page.

Charge for what you built. Pay the people inside it. Ship the rails in a week.

Replit embedded Whop’s checkout so 50 million users can charge for the apps they build. Cal.com replaced a four-step OAuth checkout handoff with an embedded component. Poke pays its human assistants through Whop payouts and virtual cards. micro1 made Whop its global payouts partner in under a week. If you are building agents, tools or a marketplace, this is the payment layer the builders in our network use, and Dennis Yu is a partner on it.

What you pay to get paid: today versus Whop, on your own numbers

$16,015card fees per year at your rate today
$15,015card fees per year on Whop at 2.7% + 30¢
$1,000difference per year, before any optional layer

Base rates only: Stripe 2.9% + 30¢, Whop 2.7% + 30¢. Whop’s optional layers (managed tax 2%, orchestration 0.8%, billing 0.5%) are not included and can push the stack above Stripe. Instant payouts, disputes and international cards are extra on both.

Same Whop pricing as going direct. No contract, no markup. Whop pays our founder a partner share out of its own margin; you pay nothing extra. Already decided on Whop? Why signing up through us costs nothing and adds a team. Run an agency or a platform? Become a Whop Partner under us.

What Whop gives you

What Whop gives an AI builder

Embedded checkout and an API

Checkout components that run inside your product, so a user pays without a redirect; webhooks and a Zapier app for everything downstream.

Payouts with KYC and tax handling

Pay coaches, experts, contractors or assistants to bank, Venmo, Cash App, PayPal or stablecoins; identity verification and tax reporting are Whop’s problem, not yours.

Source: the Metafy story

License keys tied to the subscription

Keys are issued, checked and revoked with the paying account; a cancelled subscription is a dead key without a spreadsheet.

Virtual cards with spend controls

Whop Cards give the humans or agents inside your product a Visa with limits and transaction tracking, plus cashback on eligible spend.

Sell your agents and skill packs

A storefront, subscriptions and a marketplace listing for the agents, prompts and skill packs you already build; affiliates built in so your users sell them for you.

Card processing at 2.7% + 30¢

Domestic card rate with no monthly fee; enterprise rates from 2.5% + 30¢. Stripe is 2.9% + 30¢. The gap is real and small; the mechanism above is the reason to move.

The mechanism

Rent the money rails; ship the product

Every builder in our network eventually writes the same three things badly: a checkout, a payout system, and an entitlement check. The stories on Whop are builders who stopped. Cal.com’s engineering lead called the integration a breeze and its customers now get paid before the appointment. Metafy paid $10 million to gaming coaches with every KYC, tax form and ACH transfer handled by Whop. micro1, fielding offers at $2.5 billion, integrated payouts in under a week.

STEP 1 Embedded checkout in your app No redirect; webhooks and Zapier downstream STEP 2 Payouts and cards for the humans inside KYC, tax reporting, spend controls handled STEP 3 License keys tied to the subscription Cancelled subscription, dead key, no spreadsheet
The three rails a builder rents instead of writing: checkout, payouts, entitlements.

The pattern that matters for an AI builder is the human in the loop. Poke pairs its agent with a person for the tasks the agent cannot finish, and that created two money problems: paying the humans and letting them spend. Whop payouts and Whop Cards with spend controls are the two rails; Poke rented both instead of building them.

If your product is the agent itself, the storefront is the other half: a subscription, a license key that dies when the subscription does, a community for your users, and an affiliate program so they sell it. StellarAIO runs $2.6 million in ARR on exactly that.

What a builder moves first

  • Charge inside the app with embedded checkout; no redirect, no abandoned tab.
  • Pay contractors, experts or assistants with payouts; KYC and tax reporting handled.
  • Gate the product with a license key tied to the subscription.
  • List the agent or skill pack on the marketplace with affiliates on.

Each link is our retelling of Whop’s own write-up, with only the numbers Whop published and what we would tell a peer to copy. All 52 stories, by industry, are at dennisyu.com/whop.

  • Replit. Embedded Whop checkout so 50 million users can charge for the apps they build without leaving the console.
  • Cal.com. 20,000-plus customers can now be paid before the appointment through Whop's embedded checkout.
  • Poke. The first AI agent approved for Apple Messages pays its human assistants through Whop payouts and virtual cards.
  • micro1. $100 million-plus paid to experts; Whop became its global payouts partner in under a week.
  • Metafy. $10 million paid to gaming coaches, every payout through Whop: KYC, tax reporting, next-day ACH.
  • StellarAIO. $2.6 million in ARR on license keys that die when the subscription does.

What it costs

Fees, the financing gate, and the one number Whop has not confirmed

Whop’s base rate is 2.7% + 30¢ per card transaction with no monthly fee, 20 basis points under Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢. Optional layers cost extra and only if you switch them on: managed sales tax 2%, payment orchestration 0.8%, billing automation 0.5%, affiliate payout processing 1.25%. International cards add 1.5% and currency conversion 1%. Disputes are $15. Instant payouts are 4% + $1; next-day ACH is $2.50. Turn on every layer and the stack costs more than Stripe, so read your own statement before you believe anyone’s savings pitch, including ours.

Financing is not on by default. Whop requires a verified Whop Payments account, a complete store page, a dispute rate under 2% over 90 days, and $30,000 processed from ten or more customers in the last 90 days, or 90 days of statements from your previous processor. It is not available to gambling, sports betting, trading signals, credit offers or adult categories.

The bonus

What we add when you sign up through our founder’s link

AI Builder Spotlight is built by the team behind Local Service Spotlight. Dennis Yu, who runs that team, is a Whop Partner: Whop pays him a share of its profit on every business that signs up through his link, and that share funds the work we normally charge builders for.

Personal brand analysis

A scored inventory of your relationships, proof, content and reputation, with the exact next moves. The same document Dennis built for Whop’s own Head of Services.

Digital plumbing

Google Analytics 4, Tag Manager, Search Console and the Whop pixel installed and verified, with conversion events that actually fire, so you can see which dollar rang the phone.

Content Factory

One recording becomes a definitive article, short clips and posts that point to one page you own.

Agents that keep it running

We set up the AI agents that audit your public reputation, fix what they find, and produce a weekly Metrics, Analysis, Action report after we hand it off.

For a builder that means your personal brand as an AI builder, the customer-story pages a buyer reads before a trial, the event tracking that separates a signup from an activation, and, if you run a platform with merchants or members on it, enrollment as a Whop Partner under Dennis so your own referrals pay you.

Bonus applies to new Whop businesses created through the link that process real payments. Sign up, take your first payment, then email us and we schedule the work.

Honest limits

Who this is not for

If you already run Stripe Billing with a custom entitlement system and a finance team that likes it, the migration cost is real and the 20 basis points will not pay for it; look at Whop for payouts and the marketplace instead. If you need enterprise invoicing with net-60 terms and purchase orders, Whop is not that. Payout and card pricing are separate from checkout pricing; get the schedule in writing.

How it works

Three steps

  1. Create your Whop business through the link. whop.com/start/?a=thedennisyu. Attribution is recorded at signup; your pricing is unchanged. If you already have a Whop account, email us the business name first and we submit the referral by hand so it is not lost.
  2. Take your first payment. Invoice, checkout link, or Tap to Pay on iPhone.
  3. Email dennis@dennisyu.com with the subject “I signed up for Whop through Dennis” and your Whop business URL. We schedule the bonus within one week.

Not sure Whop is the right move yet? Start with the free AI Builder audit; it tells you what your business needs first, and it is free either way.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can users pay inside my app without a redirect? Yes. Whop’s embedded checkout components run inside your product; Replit and Cal.com both use them.

How do payouts work for a platform? Your users verify identity through Whop, connect a payout method and withdraw; SideShift, Metafy and micro1 run all payouts this way. Payout pricing is separate from checkout pricing.

Does Whop manage license keys? Yes. Keys are issued, checked and revoked with the subscription, which is how StellarAIO runs $2.6 million in ARR on the platform.

Can I become a Whop Partner for the builders and merchants on my platform? Yes. Create your account through the link, apply to Partners from your dashboard, and each business you refer pays you up to 30% of Whop’s gross profit on it; Dennis earns a smaller second-tier share.

Does going through the link cost more? No. Whop’s pricing is identical. Whop pays partners a share of its own profit on referred businesses; that share is what funds the bonus.

Disclosure: Dennis Yu, founder of AI Builder Spotlight, is a Whop Partner and earns a share of Whop’s profit on businesses that sign up through the link on this page, plus a smaller share on partners who enroll under him.
